The Religious Looking For Handouts
I’m curious why so many religious people seem to have no trouble asking for handouts. It’s been an epidemic for me lately. I get so many of these damn requests that I’m starting to get a little angry.
First off, let me say that I’m not in any “essential needs” business. I don’t sell food, water, air, shelter, or second chances. I make recordings of noise and run an internet community. That’s it. If a person can find a verse in the confusing book about Jesus saying it’s cool to beg for ridiculous, unnecessary items and services, I probably still wouldn’t care, but maybe then I could empathize….slightly.
Delusion
I realize that a person asking me to entirely donate my services in the name of God is, most likely, convinced that God chose them to be go out and witness to the world. Their chosen calling – even though God (or easily identified bits of DNA code) didn’t bless them with the talents to see this idea through – just happens to be in the world of music. How interesting that tons and tons of people who have no affiliation with Christ or The Inquisition also participate in such a secular event. God must be running out of ideas. (He’s had 6,000 years since his last day of hard work, right? God, get off your lazy ass!)
I’m positive that these people feel that once THEY get their big shot to do their thing on cd, people are going to poor from slums, whorehouses, and drug dealing establishments to hand their life over to the big guy in the sky. The Turkish sex slave trade will vanish over night. Not only is this obviously delusional (the commodity of music is rivaled in perceived value to that of polluted air these days), it’s borderline narcissism. Is THAT what Jesus would do?
Do these people realize that a neighbor on their block is uploading music they recorded to the “inner net” right now? Granted, Christian numbers continue to grow. Maybe they are on to something. (According to Michael Shermer the United States has double the concentration of Christians in 2000 as it did in 1900. That can most likely be attributed to scientific progress making life easy…..making the big guy a little easier to believe in….for some.)
Unawareness
When looking for the big handout, another thing that bothers is me is the item being begged for. Don’t beg for music recording. That’s ridiculous entertainment (for the people recording the music……rarely is the casual listener in the same boat!).
Why not beg for something that someone really does need? Sudan is in the middle of their Holy War where any non-believing infidel is crushed by bad guys on horses. These people really don’t have water, food, nutrition, and it has nothing to do with circumstances under their control. Why not make an attempt to unravel some of the damage done by religion and maybe keep a kid from dying today? I’m positive an 8-year old getting 2 extra glasses of water today (these water pumps are typically powered by the latest-generation solar cells that HUMANS had to figure out on their one) is going to do more good than any stupid reworked southern gospel song.
Recheck your priorities, Christians.
While you are at it, maybe you can figure out why all those rape scenes in the Bible are necessary. Rape has its place, but in the Bible???????????
